Hello wonderful congregation!
This is probably the longest eblast I have sent you in quite some time. It just shows how we are coming back to life with in-person events and working together for the health of our community and church (and having fun in the process). Please read (or even skim) through this eblast; there is something for everyone!
July 16 Worship – Pride Sunday!
Our synod’s new bishop, the Rev. Dr. Megan Rohrer, who began serving as bishop of the Sierra Pacific Synod on July 1, 2021, will be our preacher (by video) for July 18 worship services. The text for the sermon is from Mark 5:21-43, which is the story of Jairus and his daughter and the woman with the hemorrhage. Jesus crosses cultural boundaries as he brings healing to those who are isolated from their community. Pr. Scott will be presiding. And don’t forget – we’re kicking off Pride Week with the return of the potluck this Sunday! Help us celebrate Northern Nevada Pride Week!  Wear your tie-dyed shirt or colorful clothing to worship as we celebrate the return of the “Potluck.” Bring a colorful potluck dish to share for our morning brunch between worship from 10am-11am!  
Reno Aces Ballgame – Deadline to order tickets is WEDNESDAY
Triple A baseball is back and going strong in the Truckee Meadows. Let’s go to a game together on Friday night, August 6. Tickets are $20 and order forms are available in the Welcoming Space. Just place your order form and check in the offering box or drop by the office.

New Collection for Mt. Rose School Starts Sunday
BACK TO SCHOOL!  ALREADY???  It's hard to believe that school starts in just a few weeks - August 9th!  As in past years, we've checked with Good Shepherd's neighborhood school, Mt. Rose Elementary, and they tell us that this year they are in need of black pants and leggings. For lots of reasons, many of their students don't have black pants which are part of the uniform they are to wear each day for school.
The pants don't need to be new . . . see what your children and grandchildren have that don't fit any more or visit your favorite thrift store.  All sizes are needed, for kids from kindergarten through 8th grade, size 6 to 16 and even some larger ones for those growing 7th and 8th graders. Black leggings are acceptable too, so some of them are needed as well.
If you’re not up to shopping, a monetary contribution is always an option.  Make your check payable to Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, earmarked for Mt. Rose, pop it in the offering box or mail it, and Judith Inskip will gladly do the shopping.
There will be a collection basket for the pants and leggings in the welcoming space on Sundays (July 18 and 25, and August 1) and outside the office door during office hours until August 2.
Let's help these youngsters fit in at school and feel that they belong. That's so important for their self-esteem and, that in turn, plays a large part in their success academically as well. Most of us are blessed to be able to provide that for our children.  Let's help those Mt. Rose kids feel that too! 
Let’s Help Echo Loder School with Books!
Did you know that reading is a superpower? Did you know that YOU are a hero? COVID was pure Kryptonite to Echo Loder Elementary School.  Echo Loder is a small, underserved school right behind the old Park Lane Mall property. And their book budget has been beaten up badly. Help Needed for Dump Run!
We have a 6’ couch plus a loveseat and chair along with two 4-drawer file cabinets to dispose of. We have tried to donate these items and we’ve lucked out. We are in need of someone(s) to haul this stuff to the dump for us.  If you have a truck and can take even part of it, we’ll find a helper or two for the heavy lifting. 
Power Washing Help Needed
Our property has gotten filthy over the last year, and we have multiple areas that need power washing. If you have a power washer and can commit to washing even one area, we’ll be so grateful! Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays are the best times (no one but staff is on the premises during the day). * Pride Parade – Saturday, July 24
We meet at the Good Shepherd’s parking lot at 9:15am Saturday, July 24 and at 9:30am we’ll walk to the parade starting location at 5th and Virginia with our Good Shepherd banner.  The parade route ends at Island where you can then visit the booths at the festival or come back to Good Shepherd.
* Sunday, July 25 – Christmas in July!
Share your favorite Christmas cookies and join us Sunday morning, July 25. We will tell the story of Christ’s birth (in person!) once again this year. We also encourage you to take this time to share a special financial gift to Good Shepherd.  A special offering will be taken in worship July 25 or you can make a contribution (Memo: Xmas in July) through our website, cell phone app Give+ or mail a check.
Shared Harvest Assembly for July – Assembly is July 25
You can drop off your items in church on Sunday mornings or you can drop them off at the office during office hours. The bin is located by the front office door.  Office hours are Mondays from 9am to 4:30pm and Tuesdays through Thursday from 9am to 2pm.  Our shopping list for July includes:
  • Chili (We need 41 cans.)
  • Macaroni & Cheese (We need 55 boxes.)
  • Saltine Crackers (We need 41 sleeves.)
  • Tuna (We need 41 cans.)
  • Powdered Laundry Detergent (We need as much as possible.)
