Good Shepherd friends,
You may have seen that on Tuesday of this week, the CDC (The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) issued new masking recommendations related to reducing the impact of the Delta variant of COVID-19. In geographic regions with a substantial or high transmission rate, the CDC recommends that people, even those who are vaccinated, resume wearing masks indoors in public areas. In response, Nevada’s Governor Steve Sisolak likewise directed that those in Washoe County, a high-transmission region, wear masks indoors. Additionally, the City of Reno is now requiring all people, regardless of vaccination status, to wear a mask in indoor public settings in all City of Reno facilities.
While this is discouraging and frustrating news, it is not entirely unexpected. We will resume masking as we have before. In accordance with these directives, our Good Shepherd COVID Task Force recommends the following:
  • Worshipers are asked to wear masks over nose and mouth.
  • Worship leaders may unmask when standing at a distance from others during the portion they lead and then re-mask thereafter.
  • We will continue to offer communion by multiple means: Prepared cups as well as wafers or gluten-free crackers served by intinction.
  • We will discontinue our 10 a.m. coffee and fellowship time for now.
The Delta variant of COVID, its highly contagious nature, and the sharp increase in cases are another reminder to get vaccinated if you have not already done so. Visit to locate a vaccination site. Good Shepherd will continue to abide by these directives until conditions and public health officials indicate otherwise.

Last Week for our Mt. Rose School Collection – Black Pants & Leggings
Mt. Rose Elementary is in need of black pants and leggings. The pants don't need to be new;  see what your children and grandchildren have that don't fit any more or visit your favorite thrift store.  All sizes are needed, for kids from kindergarten through 8th grade, size 6 to 16 and even some larger ones for those growing 7th and 8th graders. Black leggings are acceptable too, so some of them are needed as well. There will be a collection basket for the pants and leggings in the welcoming space and outside the office door during office hours until August 5.  If you’re not up to shopping, a monetary contribution is always an option.  Make your check payable to Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, earmarked for Mt. Rose, pop it in the offering box or mail it, and Judith Inskip will gladly do the shopping.
