Happy June Good Shepherd!
Activities are ramping up as we head into summer with less COVID-19 restrictions than we’ve had in well over a year. Please read through this entire eblast so you’re up to date with “what’s happening!”
Join us in-person this Sunday, June 6, for our 9am Contemporary Worship or our 11am Traditional Worship. Masks are required but we no longer have social distancing or reservation requirements so come on down to church! If you prefer, join us for our livestreamed worship at https://youtu.be/gingwgDULtc anytime after 10:55am Sunday morning.
Pr. Scott will be preaching on Mark 3:20-35 in his sermon “Jesus Getting in Good Trouble.” While there were large crowds that followed Jesus, others were unsettled by his ministry. Jesus was focused on his mission and purpose—doing God’s will as he understood it. He would not be dissuaded or distracted from it, even by his family or by religious authorities of the day.

Adapting to New CDC Guidelines in Worship at Good Shepherd
What a challenging year-plus long time it has been from March 2020 as we have all adapted to living with COVID restrictions and health recommendations. Our COVID Task Force has been guiding decision-making at Good Shepherd related to the pandemic and recently met to discuss the updated CDC guidelines released May 13 and local health data reported by the Washoe County Health District. One of the complexities of the CDC guidelines is that they’re designed for individuals rather than for schools, churches, or other organizations. Because our worshipping congregation includes both those who are fully vaccinated and those who are not yet fully vaccinated as well as those whose health status is more vulnerable, the Task Force recommends for now that worshipers continue to be masked when in closer proximity to one another. It has said that worship leaders, such as the pastor, pianist, lector, and songleader may remove their mask when leading from the greater distance of the elevated chancel (stage area). The Task Force will continue to monitor local health conditions and updated reports from public health and church-related entities. It has another meeting scheduled for June 17 and will keep the congregation informed about continued adaptations. Task Force members include Jane Addington, Paul Brosy, Deanna Gaunt, Celia Kupersmith, Alyssa O’Hair, Dr. Ron Smith, Dave Soderlund, and Pr. Scott Trevithick.
