Dear Good Shepherd,
As I write this (Thursday afternoon), we have blue skies and cooler temperatures. It’s filled my sad heart with a bit of hope. This respite is probably short-lived since the fires are far from over, but this bit of hope is going a long way in reminding me of what’s good.
This morning, seven women gathered in Shepherd Hall with sad and grateful hearts, checking in with each other before plotting out the Women’s Bible Study schedule for the rest of 2021. We each chose AND – to allow ourselves to have sad AND grateful hearts. Choosing AND means living a wholehearted life, recognizing that life is complicated, especially during this pandemic that seems never-ending. It’s so easy to lose touch with each other but it doesn’t feel safe yet to meet in large gatherings. What do we do?
Meeting in smaller groups feels safer, and a few ministries have restarted or have been running for the last few months such as the Hiking group, the Hearts and Hands Quilters, OWLS (older wiser Lutheran singles), Rebekah Circle, Tuesday Bible Class, Thursday Bible Study, and Women’s Bible Study. We’re talking about restarting the Caregivers’ Support Group in September and offering a hybrid option (zoom and in-person concurrently). The Women’s Bible Study restarts September 9 (more information on that later in this eblast.) What other groups are you interested in? How can we help you connect during this time of no Sunday fellowship or Kids’ Community?
With hope and gratitude,
Your Good Shepherd Staff

Thank you from Mt. Rose School
Thanks to all of you who donated black pants, leggings, and your dollars for Mt. Rose School. We collected 54 pairs of black pants and 27 pairs of black leggings. With the cash donated, Judith Inskip purchased nine good quality backpacks and filled them with school supplies. The children and staff at Mt. Rose School are very grateful for the generosity of our congregation. "Fitting in" is SO important to student success. Our thanks to Judith for organizing this annual donation/collection.
Books for Echo Loder School
A huge thank you to those who purchased books for Echo Loder School. They have received 106 books for their library thanks to Good Shepherd!
New Collection – Gently Used or New Shoes
PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) is an organization of women, by women and for women. Many Good Shepherd members are involved in PEO, Chapter B. They are sponsoring a shoe drive this year and are in need of shoes for men, women, and children (EXCEPT ski boots and flip flops). Their goal is to collect 2500 pairs of shoes throughout the Reno/Sparks community for folks who really need them. We have placed a bin in the Welcoming Space for you to drop off new or gently used shoes.
