A columbarium is a structure with niches in which urns containing ashes from deceased persons are inurned.
Historically, it was commonplace for churches to have cemeteries on the church grounds to provide space for people to remember their loved ones. Churches with columbaria or memorial gardens are recovering a version of this practice.
The Good Shepherd Columbarium was constructed within the eastern interior wall of the sanctuary, which was completed in 2012. Each niche has space for two urns placed end-to-end and is covered with a granite faceplate with the names, birthdates, and death dates of the deceased.
Niches are $1500 each which covers the cost of the granite stone facing, a nameplate identification for the urn, and a bronze urn designed to fit into the niche. Each niche can hold two urns. We have two payment plans available:
Plan #1 - $1500 cash or Plan #2 - Four Quarterly Payments of $375
Members of Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, their families, and others such as former members of the congregation may purchase a niche.
The staff at Good Shepherd will assist families in planning an inurnment service. Loved ones can arrange with our staff for visitation times at the columbarium.
