Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd Endowment Granting Fund for 2024

Good Shepherd is a church that has been providing ministry from its location on the corner of Arlington and California for more than 75 years with an Endowment established more than 30 years ago. "It has long been a part of our ministry to support the good work being done here in Reno,” shared Pastor Scott Trevithick, “And our Endowment Fund has allowed us to do so more substantially by giving us the ability to grant funds directly to organizations doing worthwhile work.”

Nine agencies which were selected to receive funds in 2023 used their funds to provide a variety of services to primarily support those with limited means. Projects included: 

  • National Alliance on Mental Illness Northern Nevada (NAMI)—One award of $1,000. This grant will support the provision of peer recovery support services to individuals who have mental health challenges and who have had involvement with the criminal justice system. 
  • Eddy House Teen Homeless Shelter—One award of $2,000 to help with transportation needs (bus passes, Uber).
  • RAVE (Respite And Volunteer Experiences)—One award of $1,000. This grant will help contribute to a larger Respite fundraising and awareness program to increase the availability of respite services to families with children with special needs.
  • Reno Bike Project—One award of $1000 to help support its project of building a “Bike Lending Library” at the Eddy House and who are in need of dependable/independent transportation.
  • Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada—One award of $1500. This grant will provide financial support for CCNN’s Immigration Legal Services to assist with green cards, work passes and legal fees associated with migrating to Nevada.
  • Urban Roots Garden Classrooms—One award of $1000 for expansion of seed-top-table education efforts through lifecycle nutrition classes; grant will fund dietitian for nutrition workshops.
  • Down Syndrome Network of NN—One award of $1000 given to provide information, education and support to raise awareness for those with Down Syndrome; grant will help fund furniture, games, supplies for Adult Day program.
  • Echo Loder Elementary School—One award of $1600 to purchase 4 picnic tables to establish an outdoor classroom
  • Sierra Flute Society —One award of $300 to support music and advertising for free concerts from the flute ensemble groups within the society.
  • Lemelson STEM Academy—One award of $500.  Supports startup costs for a pre-kindergarten classroom serving students with special needs.
  • Foster the City —One award of $500. Provides support locally for children and families in the foster care system
