Dear Good Shepherd,
The timing seems appropriate for us. Our 2nd Mile Offering for September goes to ELCA Disaster Relief. They desperately need funds for California Wildfires and for earthquake relief in Haiti. If you’d like to make a donation specifically for one of these disasters, you can write a check to Good Shepherd with “wildfires” or “Haiti earthquake” in the memo line. If you’d like to make a general Second Mile Offering, information is listed later in this email.  Our prayers to all those affected by these disasters.

We’d also like to identify people with specific skills and interests, such as party planning, historical review, or experience from another church or setting planning such milestone celebrations. Let us know by calling the church office at 359-0696 or by email to

Eddy House Monday Meals Program
Good Shepherd delivers a warm, healthy meal to approximately 50 homeless youth at the Eddy House every Monday at 5:00 pm. Volunteers prepare food at home and place in covered foil pans or other disposable containers. These volunteers then deliver the food to Good Shepherd on Monday afternoons where it is reheated and delivered to Eddy House (usually by our ever-faithful Becky Erdmann) between 4:30 and 5pm.  If you are interested in bringing a dish for a Monday meal, please view our Signup Genius page for menus and delivery options for September at For questions, contact Ciara Hornbarger at or 775-329-0696.

We are collecting new and gently used shoes.
PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) is an organization of women, by women and for women. Many Good Shepherd members are involved in PEO, Chapter B. They are sponsoring a shoe drive this year and are in need of shoes for men, women, and children (EXCEPT ski boots and flip flops). Their goal is to collect 2500 pairs of shoes throughout the Reno/Sparks community for folks who really need them. We have placed a bin in the Welcoming Space for you to drop off new or gently used shoes.
